Hamilton

Hamilton is a larger bear and we think he was made in the 1930s/40s. He was originally a very bright yellow mohair, but 99.9% of the fur had rubbed off over the years. Both of his eyes, which were spikes of yellow glass, had been chipped and broken. He had many, many holes and his fabric was weak and fragile. Pretty much all of his paws needed rebuilding. Overall he was all saggy and misshapen from the woodwool stuffing having been compacted over his long life.

This was a very challenging project and took a lot of time and patient stitching to bring him back to life over many months. Holes were patched and weak areas reinforced with lining, darning or a combination of the two. He was restuffed and a new, deep register growler added to give him a voice back (the original one having disintegrated many years ago!). His head was relined, with new eyes, repairs and re-siting of his ears. His limbs were patched up and the paw pads rebuilt and covered with felt to match the original coverings. He’s now clothed and looking very much his best self and has gone to live with his new grandchild-owner in France.
