Sashiko Embroidered Hooped Wall Art - City of Light - slow stitched sashiko hand embroidery patchwork on cotton fabric
£45.00
Slow stitched over a number of weeks, this embroidery has evolved from a patchwork of coloured Sashiko stitches to include applied cotton fabric scraps and gold thread. When I started it I had no idea of the final composition, I just let it become what it wanted to be. As I stitched I was watching the first series of His Dark Materials, adapted from one of my favourite stories by Philip Pullman and as I was finishing it I realised that it had become the mountain with the City of Lights above. The layered stitches echo the interleaving of worlds and the fabric scraps became part of the solidity of the mountain. The gold thread that snakes its way across the horizon shimmers subtly.
The embroidery is neatly finished and ready to hang in its bamboo hoop. It measures 7 inches in diameter and would be a beautiful addition to any living space. It is stitched with cotton embroidery floss on a 100% teal coloured printed cotton ground. Absolutely unique and one of a kind, why not give this piece of contemporary fibre art a place in your home?
