Mamas & Papas Mouse
This is a mamas and papas mouse from the late 1990s/early 2000s. Made from a synthetic knitted material - probably nylon based, the fibres that originally made it fuzzy had long disappeared, leaving a net that had laddered in many places. Over the years various parts of the mouse had been covered with clothing such as a onesie and socks and it needed cleaning, re-covering and restuffing. I kept the original limbs intact and covered them with a fine cotton sheeting (baby bedding as it was soft and in keeping). I reshaped the feet that had become misshapen and saggy as I went. The head needed to be remade - so I made a pattern from the existing head and then inserted the original features - eyes, ears and nose to make it look like part of the original. The body was repaired where it had become holey, and restuffed. I then reattached the onesie at the request of the owner and feet socks and she was ready to go home. The final photo in the gallery below is of the mouse with the owner’s brother’s mouse, bought at a similar time.
This was quite a challenging project given the materials involved and the distortions created over time, but the final result was good, and the mouse is now secured for the future.
