Kermit after

Kermit the Frog

We fell in love with Kermit when he arrived. Admittedly he was in pieces and he was a fixer upper… but he still had style, which emerged more and more as he was fixed up!

The chief issues were: broken and missing strings; detached arms and head; a leg that had pulled partway out of the body; and a cracked but still mostly intact foot. He also needed a good clean as the felt was quite dingy in places.

The foot was dealt with by gluing and filling the crack to secure it. Once fully dry paint was matched to the original to disguise the crack.

The limbs were a bit more tricky. The original legs had just been pushed through the hole and held pretty much by friction. The body was opened up and the legs pulled to their proper place and they were then secured inside so that they couldn’t make a bid for freedom again!

The arms and head were reattached. We made the decision to use a stronger attachment, using a braided cord, given that the original had worn through. One of the hands was also coming unstitched so that was resewn.

The original control bar was present with all of the buffers and we restrung Kermit using the original colours (green for his legs rather than the traditional blue as that was what was there before).

All in all, once complete we feel that Kermit looks decidedly natty and we hope that his owner gets as much pleasure from his reacquaintance as we did having Kermit stay.
